CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple announced the launch of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, featuring enhancements in camera technology, battery life, and processing capabilities. Both devices are equipped with the new A20 Pro chip and incorporate a redesigned vapor chamber to maintain high performance. In addition, Apple introduced a smaller Dynamic Island and new camera controls tailored for professional users. Preorders will begin on September 12, with official sales starting September 18 across more than 65 countries and regions.

The most significant update in camera technology is the 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera with a variable aperture. The lens can shift between four aperture settings thanks to six internal blades, giving users the ability to adjust aperture, shutter speed, and white balance directly within the Camera app. A histogram display shows exposure levels as scenes are framed. The upgraded imaging system introduces new texture and grain controls to Photographic Styles, while video recording users can add Cinematic effects after capturing footage.

Apple is also unveiling Reference Image, a feature designed for those who need to verify whether a photograph has been altered. This opt-in feature captures signed sensor data when a picture is taken in Reference mode. Private Cloud Compute processes this data into a reference image for comparison within the Photos app. Apple intends to expand support for the SynthID standard via a software update later this year. Image metadata will serve as another method for identifying AI-generated or edited content.

The A20 Pro chip, built on a 2-nanometer process, features a six-core CPU paired with a seven-core GPU. Apple states that the GPU can perform up to 40% faster than the A19 Pro. The chip also includes a Dual 16-core Neural Engine with a total of 32 cores dedicated to AI processing. A new thermal design places the processor nearer to a larger vapor chamber. According to Apple, this setup can provide up to 40% higher sustained performance compared to the previous generation.

Battery capacity has also been increased, especially in models that rely solely on eSIM. Apple rates the iPhone 18 Pro for up to 36 hours of video playback, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max can reach up to 45 hours under the same testing conditions. The Pro model can attain 50% charge in approximately 15 minutes when using compatible wired accessories. eSIM-only variants will be available in markets such as Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, along with several other countries outside the region.

iOS 27 introduces Siri AI to the new Pro devices

Running on iOS 27, the iPhone 18 Pro series supports the latest Apple Intelligence features. Siri AI enters beta on September 14 for supported devices set to English. Apple has plans to add support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish in October. The virtual assistant can utilize information from messages, emails, and photos when users seek assistance. It can also interpret on-screen content and work seamlessly with the Camera app. Apple Intelligence combines on-device processing with Private Cloud Compute for cloud-based tasks supported by compatible devices.

Both models will be available in burgundy, glacier, silver, and black, with storage options ranging from 256GB to 2TB. The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 in the United States, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max begins at $1,299. Preorders will open at 5 a.m. Pacific Time on September 12. The first wave of markets will see retail availability starting September 18, with an additional 20 countries and regions receiving the new lineup beginning September 25.
