The Houbara Breeders Support Initiative aims to assist existing breeding projects as well as those planning to set up new facilities. Participating breeders and their teams will benefit from expert-led courses provided by Abu Dhabi Nature Academy. The training modules and workshops focus on responsible houbara breeding, animal welfare, biosecurity, and the operation of breeding facilities. Additionally, operational procedures used in managed breeding programs will be covered. Those who complete the required coursework can earn certification, and specialists will continue offering technical support throughout the initiative’s lifespan.
Participants who meet the eligibility criteria may also be granted breeding birds through a right to use arrangement upon successful completion of assessments and training. This support complements the program’s educational and technical assistance components. The initiative was designed by IFHC to give breeders access to knowledge accumulated through its extensive conservation efforts. It integrates breeder assessment, formal training, and ongoing support within a unified participation framework.

With over four decades of experience, the International Fund for Houbara Conservation has been involved in breeding, research, releases, and conservation efforts related to the houbara within the UAE and across the species’ native range. This new breeder-focused initiative channels that expertise into a structured program specifically for private breeders.
