CAIRO / RankWire.AI / – Egypt’s net international reserves hit an estimated $55.0723 billion at the end of June 2026. This milestone marked the first time reserves exceeded $55 billion and set a new record high. The Central Bank of Egypt announced this figure on July 8. Reserves stood at $53.1342 billion at the end of May, with a monthly increase of approximately $1.94 billion, or nearly 3.6%, making June the strongest month of the first half of 2026.

Egypt started 2026 with net international reserves of $51.4516 billion as of December. The total rose to $52.5938 billion in January. It then increased further to $52.7455 billion in February and $52.8306 billion in March. Reserves reached $53.0092 billion in April before climbing to $53.1342 billion in May. The June figure continued the consistent growth seen throughout the first six months of the year.
The total for June was approximately $3.62 billion higher than the December 2025 level, representing an increase of just over 7% during the first half of the year. In January, the Central Bank of Egypt stated that reserves covered about 6.3 months of merchandise imports. The June report did not provide a new import coverage estimate or a detailed explanation of the factors behind the monthly increase.
June boost pushes reserves to new peak
Egypt also experienced notable growth in remittance inflows during this fiscal year. Remittances reached $39.2 billion from July 2025 through April 2026, compared to $29.4 billion during the same period a year earlier. In April alone, inflows rose to about $4.3 billion from roughly $3 billion in April 2025. Official statements did not directly connect these remittance figures to the June increase in foreign reserves.
The country’s current account deficit expanded to $5.1 billion in the January to March 2026 quarter, up from $2.3 billion in the same period a year prior. Higher remittance inflows, tourism earnings, and Suez Canal revenues helped offset part of a larger trade deficit. Foreign direct investment (FDI) net inflows for the quarter totaled $3.7 billion, slightly below the $3.8 billion recorded a year earlier.
External indicators support reserve achievement
The International Monetary Fund reached a staff-level agreement with Egyptian authorities on June 29. This agreement covered the seventh review of Egypt’s economic program and a separate sustainability facility review. The IMF noted that gross international reserves remained broadly stable at the end of March. The June reserve figure reflects these discussions and provides the latest official snapshot of Egypt’s net international reserve position.
Egypt concluded the first half of 2026 with reserves surpassing all previous monthly levels reported by monetary authorities. The June reserve total was nearly $2 billion higher than May’s figure and more than $3.6 billion above the December 2025 reading. Consistent increases from January to May, followed by a substantial jump in June, culminated in the record level of $55.0723 billion, based on the provisional month-end data.
