Al Dahra Agriculture Trading is set to provide imported wheat to Egypt’s General Authority for Supply Commodities as part of this arrangement. The procurement will be financed through the Abu Dhabi Exports Office. This agreement formalizes a framework established in 2023, detailing the terms for wheat transactions between Al Dahra and GASC over the upcoming five years.
The deal was signed on Aug. 26, 2026, at Egypt’s Cabinet of Ministers headquarters in El Alamein. Attending the signing were Egyptian Supply and Internal Trade Minister Sherif Farouk, representing GASC as chairman, along with Al Dahra co-founder and managing director Khadim Abdullah Al Darei. Officials did not specify the volume of wheat covered by the agreement, nor did they reveal shipment origins, delivery schedules, annual purchase targets, or the pricing methodology for individual transactions.
This new arrangement builds upon a financing scheme announced by the UAE and Egypt in August 2023. Under that framework, ADEX provided US$100 million in revolving credit to fund wheat and other critical commodity imports. The facility was designed for annual renewal over five years, creating a potential financing capacity of up to US$500 million. The initial framework involved Egypt’s ministries of finance and international cooperation working alongside GASC. The latest agreement clarifies how Al Dahra will supply wheat utilizing this existing financing structure.
Five-year plan transitions into wheat procurement phase
ADEX functions as the export financing arm of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, supporting purchases linked to UAE exporters. The 2023 agreement with Egyptian authorities covered wheat and other essential commodities supplied through Al Dahra. Its revolving structure permitted annual renewal during the five-year span. Instead of establishing a new US$500 million facility, the current accord provides the commercial framework enabling GASC to purchase imported wheat from Al Dahra using already arranged financing via ADEX.
Since 2007, Al Dahra has maintained agricultural operations within Egypt, including farms in Toshka and East Oweinat. In 2023, the company reported cultivating approximately 28,000 hectares and supplying over 180,000 tons of wheat to the Egyptian government over the previous three years. At that time, Al Dahra indicated that about 85% of its Egyptian farm production entered the local market. The firm now manages an agricultural platform serving more than 40 markets around the world.
Imported wheat procurement remains linked to ADEX financing
The agreement finalized in El Alamein pertains to imported wheat supplied to GASC, while Al Dahra also produces crops domestically within Egypt. In 2023, the firm identified itself as Egypt’s largest private-sector wheat and corn producer. This new pact involves a separate import channel supported by UAE export financing, with GASC remaining the Egyptian agency responsible for procurement under this arrangement. Neither GASC nor Al Dahra has disclosed the total tonnage of wheat deliveries covered by the five-year agreement.
The program’s total value is capped at up to US$500 million over five years, following the structure established in 2023. No annual shipment schedule has been published, nor have the supplier countries for the imported wheat been disclosed. The pricing formula for individual transactions has also not been revealed. As of Aug. 27, 2026, the finalized agreement connects Al Dahra’s wheat supplies to GASC with the existing ADEX financing program, formalizing the operational phase of the five-year plan.
